Because microscopic nits can emerge as they mature, consistent follow-up is the key to success. Use this step-by-step guide to manage the 21-day cycle and maintain your results with confidence
The total eradication of lice is a process. It is normal for some nits to appear over the next couple of weeks: these are nits that were immature at the time of the visit and were too small to be seen (depending on the extent of the infestation this can range from a couple to several). Nits are not contagious and the follow-up combing procedures will eradicate these. As they get bigger, the Terminator comb will grab and pull them out. If a nit remains in the head and hatches do not worry, that baby bug (nymph) can’t reproduce or climb to someone else’s head (baby bugs cannot move or reproduce for at least 2 weeks). On the rare occasion where you see a live bug, Rest assured now it’s out of the hair, just add another check day, it is probably, the last one.
It is extremely important to follow up with these instructions immediately the next day after your home visit appointment. This will ensure that the case is completely eradicated:
The day of the appointment – Lice can hold their breath for 6 hours, oil must remain in the hair for at least 8 hours to be effective, you can sleep with it, just place a towel on your pillowcase.
The next morning or after 8 hours – At the shower, wet your hair and add conditioner to your oiled hair, use plastic comb to comb the hair backward, then use the Terminator metal nit comb, and spend 2-4 minutes combing the hair from front to back, and nape of the neck. Rinse and shampoo hair as usual. (you may use dish detergent to cut through the oil) Combing with the Terminator nit comb will pull out and damage any remaining nits in the hair or if anything new crawled into your hair. Repeat minimum 2 times, each week, for 3 weeks. Please mark your Calendar the combing days: Appointment Day is day 0, next day is day 1.
In general, and if a family member does not have visible nits, he/she still needs to do a modified version of the follow-up plan, we recommend combing in the shower with conditioner once a week, for 3 weeks. to avoid any new infestation.
Remember you may see some nits for 3 weeks. This is normal life cycle of the lice, most of the time you’ll see specs, such as eggshells, meaning the nit was damaged but the shell of the nit remained on the hair strand, please don’t worry as this is a clear empty shell. Even if it is a live nit, you don’t need to worry, as it is now off the hair, remember that during the appointment we remove and damage 99% of the nits, if there are any remaining nits it will approximately be 2-8 nits these were too small to come out at the initial treatment, following this plan will ensure, you damaging and eradicating any remaining if any nits left in the hair.
Nits (eggs) can NOT reattach to the hair. Once the nits are slightly moved from the hair, they are dead, due to air penetration.
To prevent a re-infestation, we recommend Essential Oils such as Peppermint & Rosemary, Lavender, Tea Tree which hides the human sense, puts a protective layer on the hair and repels lice. Girls may style their hair in a braid or bun.
Adults and kids may cover with a light plastic shower cap for neatness —it is not therapeutic. Caution: Do not let children go to bed with a plastic shower cap. Place an old towel over the pillow for anyone under the age of 18.
